After verifying that all donations will be going to a non-profit entity, it is time to configure different funds for your Donations engine.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Step 1: Create a Stripe account

If your institution does not already have one, now is the time to go to Stripe and create an account. You’ll be required to provide information on your organization (for business entity verification), banking information (for payouts), and personal details (to verify yourself as an authorized representative of the organization). Please consult your finance office as needed to set up a Stripe account and, as we will outline below, link funds.

Step 2: Add funds to your Symposium donations engine

Now, you can go ahead and add various funds to your Donations engine, which donors will be able to select to designate their donations. There’s no limit on the number of funds that you can add, but we recommend adding no more than five funds to prevent donors from becoming overwhelmed with choices.

As shown here, you can add and name funds one at a time, which will then populate into the table below.

In order for you to receive donations to each fund, you must connect it to your Stripe account. You may do this by clicking the “Connect now” button for a specific fund, which will open up a Stripe page and require you to log in using your Stripe credentials (or if you haven’t yet created a Stripe account, then first set up your account).

Once you have completed setting up the fund through Stripe, you will be automatically directed back to Symposium. Within a few minutes, your connection status should change from “Connect now” to the green icon with the check mark. You may need to refresh the column to update the connection status shown on Symposium.

Step 4: Viewing funds

Once your fund has been successfully connected, it will automatically show up on the donations form that donors can access. (Please note that funds that haven’t been connected will not show up as options for your donors on the donations form.) If you would like to prevent the fund from showing up on the form for any reason, you may simply change the toggle setting in the “Display” column of the table. As donations come in, you will be able to see the total amount for each of your connected funds, as well as the total among all your linked funds. Please also note that at least one fund has to be successfully connected and set to display for the donations widget to appear on your event pages.

Once you start to receive donations, you can also export the data, which will provide information on the donor and their donation for your records.

The next step to collecting Donations on Symposium is Customizing the Donations interface.
